InterSense VCam Virtual Camera
Showcasing at the upcoming GDC - the InterSense VCam Virtual Camera.
In partnership with The Third Floor (do you know these guys?
), combining its patented motion tracking technology (more info here) with virtual production software, InterSense is introducing a new means for film and video game producers to incorporate a hand-held camera into virtual scenes. Peace of cake : the camera man operates the camera as if he was filming from within the scene. Electronics does the rest! Just watch :
Reportedly, the camera was already used by The Third Floor in Beowulf and A Christmas Carol (Robert Zemeckis rules?
), as well as in StarCraft II and Diablo III.
Going technical, the camera features the InterSense's MicroTrax 6-DOF motion tracking sensors, with the Autodesk MotionBuilder functions mapped to the camera's interface controls. A 3-axes analog joystick allows manipulating the environment in MotionBuilder. Remote video comes with the package, and wireless options are available.
