VastPark preparing an integration plugin for OpenSim
A really old news, took time to bubble up. It's all in the title : VastPark announced they started writing a plugin that will allow hosting of their IMML documents on OpenSim servers.
What does this mean?
OpenSim is a widely accepted free 3D (virtual world, in our case) application server. Up to now, all the protocols supported for OpenSim server-client communication were based on the LLUDP protocol, used by Second Life. Thus, only limited number of clients could access worlds hosted on OpenSim. Lately, though, OpenSim integrated other protocols, such as MXP, and is now working with VastPark on the integration of IMML (Interactive Media Markup Language). VastPark, on the other hand, is another virtual world development platform, best known for its outstanding physics engine and Lua support.
So, this means that standardizing by unification of different virtual world platforms is happening on the scene. Is this a sign that the technology is getting past its childhood and approaching maturity? I know, now you'll say: and what does THIS mean?
