OpenSim browser-based viewer by 3Di

3diTokyo based 3Di released yesterday 3Di OpenViewer, the first commercialized browser-based viewer for OpenSim applications.

The press release states that the main features of the software are :

  • View and interact with 3D virtual worlds inside of web browser
  • Easy integration with existing web services
  • Designed for ease of use; navigation requires only the mouse
  • Supports“Internet Explorer”

Not too much info, in fact, except maybe for the fact that Internet Explorer is put in the focus. The reason for this is probably in the fact that 3Di is primarily aimed at business use, and thus sticks to the sure values. Nevertheless, the original post states that installation, partially due to the lack of instructions in english, shows to be a non-obvious task no matter the browser you are using. Hence, let's wait for the documentation update.

That's not all! To complete the offer (or is it the other way round?), 3Di launches in same time another product, 3Di OpenSim Enterprise. It is a server software for large-scale construction of 3D virtual worlds, and is a sign of the company's strategical interests for becoming a serious player on the virtual worlds market. Main features are as follows :

  • Display of and interaction with 3D virtual worlds inside web browser using 3Di OpenViewer
  • Import of 3D models created by 3rd-party 3D software
  • Link multiple 3D spaces (“sims”) into a grid
